Herbal Acne Remedies and Supplements Cures
Amaranth
To make a tea from amaranth seeds, take 3 cups of water to a rolling boil, add 2 teaspoons of seeds, cover and simmer the solution for 5 minutes, then keep it to cool and add 1 teaspoon of its leaves and steep for 30 minutes. Use it daily as face wash.
Oregon grape
Following are some products of Oregon grape, take one of the following these three times daily: tincture (6-12 ml or 1.5-3 teaspoon), fluid extract (1-2 ml or 0.25-0.5 teaspoon), solid powder of 8-12% alkaloid content (250-500 mg.) or you can make tea from its dried root (2-4 grams). Oregon grape has antibiotic properties and helps in stimulating the immune system.
Calendula
Calendula can be available in market in the form of lotions, tinctures, and creams. You can also make a tea of calendula. Use it to wash your face.
Basil
Take basil-based oil and apply it on affected areas. You can also get the actual herb and make an infusion. To make an infusion, take 2 to 4 teaspoons of dried basil leaves in a cup of boiling water, steep for 10 to 20 minutes, keep it to cool, Then apply to the affected area.
Tea tree oil
Depending on the severity, use 5-15% solutions twice daily. It acts as effective as 5% benzoyl peroxide and is less drying. But it takes a little longer time to work. It is derived from the leaves of the native Australian Melaleuca alternifolia tree. It contains antiseptic compounds and acts as a very effective skin disinfectant.
Burdock
Burdock is effective in treating acne. Make a tea with 1 quart of water to a boil, reduce to simmer, and 4 teaspoons of cut, dried root, cover it and let simmer upto 7 minutes, then remove from heat and let steep for 2 more hours. Use it as face wash. Burdock, effective in treating all forms of chronic skin problems.
Tea
Besides aloe, burdock, and calendula, there are several other herbs from which you can made a tea and can be taken internally or used as a facewash. The other herbs are chickweed, dandelion, white oak bark, red clover, yellow dock, cayenne, echinacea, ginseng, redmond clay, sarsaparilla, and valarian.
