Flat Stomach
A bulky or slack stomach spoils your whole figure. That's why so much emphasis is put on exercises specially chosen to prevent this, particularly those that work the abdominal. However, if it's too late and the harm has already been done, surgery can help you.
Liposuction
If you simply have mass of fat that resists all exercise and dieting, you can reduce it with liposuction. After your pubic hair with liposuction. After your pubic hair has been shaved off, the surgeon inserts cannulas through three incisions (of around 6 mm/1/4 in). The scars will no longer be visible once the hair has been grown back. The operation takes around 45 minutes under epidural or local anesthetic, and you will have to spend only a few hours in hospital.
Abdominoplasty
When the problem is not one of the fat but of a very distended muscle wall (often called an 'abdominal apron'), a much bigger operation is needed. Firstly it involves stretching the aponeursis (the band of tissue that connects the muscles) and removing excess fat. The surgeon then removes the excess skin, draws the skin back down and replaces the navel. Drains are left in for three days and the stitches removed after twelve days. The length of the operation is around two hours under general anesthetic and you will need to spend two days in hospital.
Some useful advice
It's best to turn up for the operation with your weight close to normal: if you need to diet, do so beforehand. After an abdominoplasty, wear a support girdle day and night for a month. Don't return to physical exercise too early (ask your surgeon for advice). Don't expose your skin to sunshine for two months.
Some Facts
- When you do expose the affected area to sunshine, protect your scars with sun block.
- After an abdominoplasty, expect to be away from work for at least a fortnight and a gradual return to physical activities.
