Preventing Liver Spots
The brown spots, which appear on the face, hands, neck and shoulders are caused by the cumulative effect of ultraviolet rays. It is never too late to prevent them or to try to limit the damage.
Protect yourself the whole year round!
This can never be said too often - the sun affects our skin in winter as well as in summer. So get into the habit of protecting yourself all year round. Always put some sun block on your hands before going out. Keep a tube by the front door and another in the car for convenience. For your face and neck, choose moisturizing creams and make-up products, like foundation creams and tinted day creams that include a sun block. Check the packaging to ensure its there.
Consult a dermatologist
Treatment with tretinoin (Retinova or Renova cream) can make liver spots much less obvious. Some doctors prescribe fruit acid, vitamin A acid and corticoid preparations to lighten liver spots. Don't hesitate to talk to your doctor about it.
Some Facts
- Heredity can also be held responsible for liver spots. Some Skins seem predisposed to them, however little they are exposed to ultraviolet rays.
- It is possible to remove the spots with laser resurfacing or other techniques.
