Smile Keeps You Fresh
A genuine and spontaneous smile is an immense asset. It reflects your responsiveness to others and your self-confidence. However, the most dazzling of smiles will lose much of its charm if your teeth and breath are not up to standard.
Keep your teeth white
As you get older, your tooth enamel becomes porous and absorbs colored substances more easily. Cigarettes, tea and coffee are the main reasons why teeth go yellow. To stop this from becoming permanent, do not stint on the amount of time spent brushing (at least 2 minutes, 2 or 3 times a day). Electric toothbrushes are much more efficient, particularly at reaching the inner surface of your teeth. Scatter bicarbonate of soda (available in pharmacies) on your toothpaste. Twice a year have the tartar removed from your teeth.
Check your breath
Bad breath is very unpleasant for those who have to smell it. If you have doubts about the freshness of your breath, don't hesitate to ask your friends and family. Many people are unaware of their problem and so inflict unknowingly it on those around them, who feel too awkward to mention it. The causes of bad breath could be stress, bad digestion (particularly constipation) or an unbalanced diet. Talk to your doctor about it. It could also be due to bits of food stuck between the teeth, something that gets worse as you get older because your gums recede. After meals always clean your teeth with dental floss, electric toothbrush heads when at the office or a dental water jet when at home.
Some Facts
- Laugh, it may be good for your health! You release immunoglobulin A, which stimulates your immune system and protects you from infections.
- To have good breath, do as the Orientals do: scrape your tongue with a steel spatula to remove bacteria.
