Foundation
Foundations are effective in balancing skin texture and color. It is important, however, to select a product which does not cause such problems as acne, milia or seborrhoea. A perfect foundation for your skin is decided by correct estimation of skins natural color, skin type, and skin tone. Once your face is thoroughly cleansed, moisturized and prepared for make-up, foundation is your primary step.
If your complexion is clear and reasonably blemish-free, then concealer can be avoided. However, blemished, marked, pitted or pigmented skin needs concealer. Skin which is not very fair or very dark need some degree of yellow-pigmented concealer to even out the skin tones. Extremely fair or dark skin needs special concealers. Concealer is evenly applied and blended to cover very noticeable marks and discolorations. Remember, concealer goes 'under' the foundation. You may choose to use a shade of concealer very close to your own complexion, blended evenly and smoothly all over the face, to act as a foundation itself. Alternatively, you can choose to use only foundation.
Foundations are available as creams, stick, liquid or powder form. The first three are blended with fingers or a damp sponge and then set with translucent (loose or pressed) powder. The last sets itself as the name suggests. For oily skin, use water-based foundations and for normal and dry skins, oil-based make-up is suitable. A creamy, shiny look can be achieved with a shiny or shimmer foundation or powder. But remember, pitted, uneven skin can look worse with extra shine.
