Home-care for skin boils

  • Do not squeeze a boil. If you squeeze the boil, then this can spread the infection.
  • Wash the boil gently two times every day. After washing, apply an antibiotic on the affected area and cover it with a bandage.
  • Use a warm washcloth or compress to the affected area. Apply this procedure for approximately 30 minutes every few hours. If possible, soak the cloth in warm salt water. It helps to rupture and drain the boil more quickly. Make salt water with 1 teaspoon of salt to 1 quart of boiling water and let it be cool to a comfortable temperature.
  • Whenever you treat a boil wash your hands after treating a boil. Also wash the clothes, towels or compresses that had came in touch with the infected area.
