Beware of Sun Allergies

The risks of allergy and photosensitive are considerably increased by sun exposure. It is well to know which elements can trigger sun allergies. Perfumes, medicines and chemical filters are at the top of the list

The sun and perfume
Whenever you wear a perfume in bright sunlight, you risk photosensitivity and allergic reactions. This is because the alcohol contained in the perfume can raise the level of the skin's sensitivity. Perfumes contain many substances that cause a violent allergic reaction triggered by UV light, which can take the form of burning, pigmentation, skin eruption or rashes. These are characteristically in areas exposed to sun, such as the face.

Sun filter and medication
If your skin turns red after a few minutes in the sun it's because it has intolerance to the chemical filters in the sun cream you are using. Buy a sun cream which doesn't contain any. Also take care with certain medications such as diuretics, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, anti-depressants and certain contraceptive pills. Ask your dermatologist for advice.

Some Facts
  • Take certain precautions: some medicines and chemical filters are allergenic.
