Face Massage

Energetic massage is a subtle art and, if executed correctly, it can put a smile on your face, quite literally. It stimulates the circulation of vital energy and can help you look less tired after a spot of over-indulgence.

Self-massage
If you are looking tense, tired or drawn, spend the weekend to practicing the art of Japanese massage. You will be delighted to rediscover your youthful complexion by the end of it. This technique of facial massage can smooth wrinkles and tone muscles in your face. It combines the best of the traditional and the modern and is a new approach to beauty.

Facial massage techniques:

  1. Kensei
Position: between the shoulders, at the junction of the collarbone and trapezius muscle.
Action: place your thumbs on either side of the zone and apply a light pressure. Gentle pressure will relieve tension in the collarbone area and help with stiffness in the shoulders.

  2. Shiaku
Position: using your fingertips, apply gentle pressure just below the eye socket, in line with the pupils.
Action: a great anti-fatigue massage, it relieves tired eyes, decongests the nasal passages and alleviates headaches. Use your middle finger.

  3. Shintei, Bisho and Kyokusa
Position: place your head in your hands and apply gentle, repeated pressure to your forehead, first using your index fingers on the Shintei point, located in the middle of your forehead, near the hairline and then on the Bisho and finally the Kyokusa pressure points, one after the other. To locate the points, divide your forehead into six. Bisho is the second point from the center and Kyokusa the third.
Action: this massage can bring about immediate relaxation.

  4. Shosho
Position: between the depression of the lower lip and the chin.
Action: releases tension in the stress-prone jaw area. Use both middle fingers.
  5. Sanchiku
Position: at the start of the eyebrow.
Action: if you are very tense, this point can be painful. Apply gentle pressure progressively and monitor the level of pressure. Use your middle fingers.

  6. Hyakue
Position: at the top of the skull.
Action: it both relaxes you and stimulates your metabolic rate, thereby balancing your system. Apply firm pressure using both thumbs on the hyakue - the balancing zone.
