Skin Warts

Warts are local growths, commonly seen on the skin, caused by a viral infection. It is caused by the virus human papillomavirus HPV, a double stranded DNA, which spreads from person to person or by contamination of the surface.Though, they are contagious, only one family member can have them.

Warts can grow on all parts of your body. They can grow on your skin, on the inside of your mouth, on your genitals and on your rectal area. Some types of HPV tend to cause warts on the skin, while other HPV types tend to cause warts on the genitals and on rectal area. Some people are more naturally resistant to the HPV viruses and do not seem to get warts as easily as other people.

There are over 100 types of HPVs identified, that infect skin, depending on the virus type. Different sub types of HPV that infect the skin lead to the development of common skin warts. Some cause cervical cancer and warts-related cancers.

Types of warts :

  • Common warts are raised warts commonly found on the hands and knees.
  • Dome shaped warts are found on the backs of fingers, toes and knees.
  • Plantar warts are found on the bottom of the foot.
  • Flat warts arise in large numbers on the face, legs and other parts of the body.
  • Periungual warts are generally found around or under the nail.
  • Filiform warts appear on the face as a single long stalk.
  • Genital warts, appear in the genital region.

Genital warts often occur in clusters and can be very tiny or can spread into large masses in the genital area. In women, they occur on the outside and inside of the vagina, on the cervix or around the anus. The viral particles are able to penetrate the skin and mucosal surfaces through microscopic abrasions in the genital area, which occur during sexual activity.HPV virus, can last from 3 months to 2 years without symptoms.

Warts removal treatments :

There are various treatments for warts removal depending upon the type of the warts:

  • Salicylic acid treatment: Warts on the places such as hands, feet and knees, can be treated by applying salicylic acid.
  • Cantharidine treatment : In this treatment the chemical cantharidine is applied on the warts.
  • Liquid nitrogen treatment: The liquid nitrogen treatment is used to freeze the warts. This treatment is also called cryotherapy.
  • Other treatments for warts: You can also remove warts on the skin by burning the wart, cutting out the wart or removing the wart with the help of laser.

Some warts need the upper layer of skin; the epidermal part has to be removed first a little before starting the 40 % salicylic acid treatment-especially with plantar foot warts where the skin is a little thicker. These treatments usually take a bit longer.

It is always best to consult with the doctor before doing treatment because sometimes they can judge based on the skin's condition where one of the two most common treatments that is liquid nitrogen or salicylic acid works best.

Wart removal can be both painless and efficient, when treated with natural wart treatment.

By using these treatments, it may decrease the chance of warts spreading to areas of your body or to other people.
