Use Tao For Healthy Skin

Ancient Chinese doctors felt that a healthy looking skin reflected the harmony of our inner, vital energy. Today traditional eastern techniques are still used to balance Yin and Yang and improve our outer beauty.

The harmony of Yin and Yang
Ancient Chinese doctors regarded the skin as a mirror of the harmony of our vital energy. Like every other living thing, they believed that our body is animated by energy that circulates along channels known as meridians. It has two poles - one called Yin (associated with femininity, gentleness, humidity, the moon and passivity) and the other called Yang (associated with virility, strength, warmth, the sun and activity). Like our health, our beauty is the result of a perfect balance between these two poles of energy.
Yin energy is responsible for the hydro-lipid film on the epidermis; it is source of softness, suppleness and transparency in our skin. Yang on the other hand is responsible for skin tone and cellular regeneration. A deficiency in Yin energy manifests itself in wrinkles and a loosening in the contours of the face. A lack of Yang energy gives rise to unwanted redness and blotches.

Energy renewal
During the day our vital energy circulates between organs according to a well-established rhythm. Each organ has a very precise role to play in our skin. When energy circulates badly in the lung meridian, the skin becomes pale and the chin or forehead break out in small spots. When the circulation is poor along the kidney meridian, rings and bags appear beneath the eyes. When circulation along the intestinal meridian is sluggish, the skin becomes red and blotchy with rosacea.
According to eastern traditions, the remedy for such conditions lies in energetic massages or in acupuncture. Plants can also be used in treatments, and changes in diet are also advised, again based on the flow of energy.
