- Psoriasis:
It is an inflammatory skin condition. It produces red scaling elevated plaques and mostly appear on the elbows and knees. It is not contagious. Systemic infections, an injury, certain medications, stress, alcohol are some of the causes of psoriasis. The types of psoriasis are:
- Plaque psoriasis
- Guttate psoriasis
- Pustular psoriasis
- Inverse psoriasis
- Psoriatic arthritis
- Erythrodermic psoriasis
- Raynaud's disease:
Raynaud's disease is also known as Raynaud’s syndrome. It affects blood flow. The affected area may include the fingers, toes, nose and ears. Temperature changes or stress are responsible for this disease. Due to this disease, blood supply is reduced towards the affected area.
- Ring worm:
Ringworm is also known as Tinea. It is a contagious fungal infection of the skin. This disease mostly present in children and can be spread by skin-to-skin contact. It starts as a red, scaly patch or bump.
The types of Ring worm are:
- Tinea corporis
- Tinea cruris
- Tinea capitis
- Tinea unguium
- Tinea pedis
- Tinea versicolor
- Rosacea:
It is an inflammatory skin condition which causes redness of the face. It appears on the central face and across the cheeks, nose, and forehead. The symptoms of Rosacea are like permanent redness, red gritty eyes, red bumps, small blood vessels visible near the surface of the skin, burning and stinging sensations, and in some advanced cases a bulbous nose.
The types of Rosacea are as follows:
- Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea
- Papulopustular rosacea
- Phymatous rosacea
- Ocular rosacea
- Scabies:
It is a transmissible ectoparasite skin infection. It causes small itchy bumps and blisters. Scabies is caused by a mite which burrows under the skin. Itching is the most common symptom of scabies. The hands and feet, the inner part of the wrists, and the folds under the arms are the areas of the body which are mostly affected by this disease.
lindane, malathion, permethrin, crotamiton, benzyl benzoate, ivermectin, 10% sulfur and ointment are some of the the treatment methods for scabies.
- Scleroderma:
Scleroderma is a chronic disease. It can causes hardening, thickening, or tightening of the skin, blood vessels and internal organs. The treatment methods for sclerodrma are medications, exercise, stress management.
The types of scleroderma are:
- Diffuse scleroderma
- Limited scleroderma
- Morphea/linear scleroderma
- Sebaceous cyst:
Sebaceous cyst is also known as keratin cyst, epidermal cyst or epidermoid cyst. Sebaceous cyst is a closed sac or cyst found below the surface of the skin that filled with a fatty white, semi-solid material called sebum. Sebaceous cyst generally appears on the scalp, ears, genitals, and face, but they may occur anywhere on the body except the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. Most oftenly a sebaceous cyst arise from swollen hair follicles, while skin trauma can also induce a cyst to form.
The symptoms of sebaceous cyst include a smooth, small lump beneath the skin, redness, increased temperature of the skin over the affected area, grayish-white, cheesy, foul-smelling material may drain from the cyst.
- Seborrheic keratosis:
Seborrheic keratosis is a benign wart-like growths on the surface of the skin. It commonly occurs in people over 40 years of age. It is a benign form of skin tumor. Seborrheic keratosis are generally painless and benign, but may become irritated and itch.
It generally appears on the face, chest, shoulders, back, or other areas. Its symptoms include rough or wart-like texture, having slightly elevated, flat surface, round-to-oval shape and with variety of colors like yellow, brown, black, or other colors. It often may have waxy surface.
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis:
The Symptoms of seborrhoeic dermatitis includes a scaly, flaky, itchy, and red skin. It generally affects on the scalp, face and the trunk areas. Seborrhoeic dermatitis generally affects the sebum-gland rich or oily areas of the skin.
It is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder. Seborrhoeic dermatitis mainly occurs in young adults and teenagers. It is considered that it caused due to fungal infection by the yeast Malassezia furfur in individuals with decreased immunity and increased sebum production.
- Shingles
Shingles also called as herpes zoster is the viral infection. It is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox. It is caused due to varicella zoster virus. After the chicken pox is over the virus becomes dormant or inactive in nerve root cells of the body. Shingles or herpes zoster occurs due to the reactivation of the chikenpox virus. Its symptoms include an outbreak of rash or blisters on the skin.
The signs of shingles include the burning or tingling pain, or sometimes numbness, in or under the skin. It will also make you feel ill with fever, chills, headache, or upset stomach.
