Tips for Fair Skin

If you have fair skin, the heart of your skin care regimen is a good defense. Fair skin is often sensitive and over reactive. So you have to treat it more carefully. Cleansers and moisturizers, formulated for delicate skin and strong sunscreens can all work together to keep your skin calm, smooth and beautiful.

Fair skin needs a gentle cleaner and a soap free face wash. But don't lather up more than twice a day. Even mild cleansers can irritate your skin if you them too often.

If you have fair skin that is oily, steer clear of harsh soaps and astringents. Oily fair skin is usually sensitive; so you can't use strong degreasers. You can also consider skipping a moisturizer altogether. If your skin is dry, you can help keep it supple by moisturizing regularly. At night, use an oil-based moisturizer formulated with an AHA like glycolic acid.

But whether your skin is oily or dry, fair skin is more susceptible to lines and wrinkles. It is extremely vulnerable to sun damage like roughness and blotches since it lacks the protecting melanin. Fortunately, it's never too late to protect your skin from the sun and undo the damage it's already sustained. If you use a sunscreen every day, your skin will have an opportunity to renew itself and to heal. So start slathering on a sunscreen or sun block with an SPF of at least 30 every day.

If you already have premature lines and wrinkles, a dermatologist can prescribe a variety of products to keep your skin looking younger. For example, tretinoin, the prescription-only vitamin A cream, encourages cell turnover, sloughing away dead skin cells and exposing the newer, fresher skin underneath. What's more, fair skin is the ideal type for facial peel, a non-surgical procedure that can eliminate many of the sign of sun damage.

Do's And Don'ts For Fair skin

Do's

  • Cleanse only at night.
  • Use a soap=free, mild liquid cleanser.
  • Moisturize with an oily product if you have dry kin.
  • Apply an SPF 30 sunscreen or sun block daily.
  • Ask your dermatologist about moisturizers formulated with AHA, tretinoin and prescription-only options to reverse sun damage and control fine lines and wrinkles.

Don'ts

  • Irritate your delicate skin by using abrasive facial pads, astringents or other alcohol-based skin care products.
  • Use thin lotions; most don't contain enough oil to keep skin lubricated.
  • Self-treat sudden blemishes.
