Skin Types
Skin type is the description and interpretation of how your skin looks, feels, and behaves. If you want to look after your skin correctly then it is important to identify your skin type. The selection of your cosmetics is also depends on your skin type.
If you want to determine your skin type then you can go through the steps given below:
- Wash your face with a mild face wash.
- after 30 minutes, press a separate piece of tissue against your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin.
- Examine each tissue and look for oily or dry skin.
- Observe the all pieces of tissue. Oil on each tissue indicates oily skin, oil on some tissues indicates combination skin, tissues without oil indicates dry skin, no oil and no flaky residue indicates normal skin.
Almost everything can influence skin type. Skin type is influenced by many factors like:
- Internal Influences
- Hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, menstrual cycle, etc.)
- Genetic predisposition of skin type (oily versus dry, prone to breakouts, sensitive skin)
- Health problems/Skin disorders (rosacea, psoriasis, thyroid disorders, etc.)
- Medications you may be taking
- Smoking
- Diet
- External Influences
- Climate/weather
- Your skin-care routine
- Unprotected or prolonged sun exposure
Here is some general information on skin types to help you to know about your skin type:
- Combination Skin: It is having one part as oily and other as dry or normal.
- Dark Skin: This type rarely burns. Tanning occurs big time, yielding a dark brown shade.
- Dry Skin: Dry skin is with small pore size. Quite rough and with flaking. No oily areas.
- Fair Skin: This skin type almost always burns easily.
- Mature Skin: The skin becomes drier, more wrinkled, and spots and growths appear on the mature skin.
- Normal Skin: It is soft and natural skin with small to medium pore size. Normal skin is usually firm and elastic.
- Oily Skin: It is with larger and more visible pores. It looks shiny and also has a sort of hardness to it that goes beyond the nice firmness of normal skin.
- Sensitive Skin: A person with sensitive skin has more trouble with environment and the cosmetics used.
